Description:
In his letters home, Mike Hogg (1885-1941) wrote admiringly of French architecture, countryside, and children. In the early days of his deployment, he found time for language lessons and a musical band. Of the soldiers he commanded in the Texas Brigade, 90th Division, 360 Infantry, he wrote “[they came] from the East Texas counties – Trinity, Angelina, Walker, Montgomery, and Polk”. They ultimately fought in the Meuse-Argonne offensive, collapsing the last German defense line and bringing about the armistice, November 11, 1918.
