This is a self-portrait, with the “Sad Sack” character, drawn on the inside of the book, The Sad Sack: His Biography in 115 Cartoons from the Pages of Yank Magazine, by Sergeant George Baker, New York, Simon and Schuster, 1944. Andrew J. “Andy” Kyle served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII as crew chief of a C-47 assigned to the 50th Troop Carrier Squadron, 314th Troop Carrier Group.
